Bridget Chavez is an American journalist who currently works at Fox 12 News, KPTV, Oregon, as a reporter. She joined the station’s staff in June 2020. Chávez began her broadcasting career in Reno, Nevada at KOLO 8 News Now as a multimedia journalist.
She covered everything from politics to crime to extreme weather. While on the station, Bridget also launched her own news series called “Beyond The Call” to highlight community members who went above and beyond the call of duty to serve others. Fortunately, she received an Emmy for her role as a reporter for the special coverage of Camp Fire’s anniversary in Paradise, California.
Immediately after graduation, Bridget decided to teach special education to students in underserved communities in the Bay Area through Teach for America. During her time at Teach For America, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Special Education and Teaching from Loyola Marymount University. In addition, after teaching, she received a Master of Science in Broadcasting and Digital Journalism from Newhouse at Syracuse University.
In addition, Chávez obtained an undergraduate degree from University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and mass communication as well as political science. She has been passionate about telling stories and news for as long as she can remember.
