Bruce Rader biography
Bruce Rader is an American journalist who works as a sports editor for WAVY-TV. He also hosts the closing of FOX 43 Sports nightly at 10pm. Bruce has also been sporting director for WVBT-TV in Norfolk Virginia Beach for over 45 years. He received the Gold & Silver Circle Ceremony Award from the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Furthermore, he started his broadcasting job after he was hired by the late Pierre Eaton on WINX Radio in Rockville, Maryland. Here, he hosted a high school sports program and played game by game for local high school football games. Additionally, he did a weekly college basketball show highlighting the University of Maryland known as turtle talk. Furthermore, he became a well-known college basketball announcer for CBS Sports and ESPN after a successful career in the NBA.
Furthermore, he started his television career at the WMAL-TV newsroom during the final days of Watergate and the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Additionally, he was an observer for Redskins announcers Mal Campbell and Len Hathaway. He also produced Coach George Allen’s post-game show. Bruce also produced the Chris Hamburger locker room show in 1974.
In 1975, he was hired by news director Tony Burton as editor of WVEC TV. He later joined WAVY-TV as a weekday sports announcer and reporter. In 1979, he was appointed Director of Sports and Chief Sports Anchor. In addition, he has devoted extensive coverage to NASCAR, making him one of the first local sports announcers outside of Florida.
