Hughes is an Emmy Award-winning journalist currently co-anchoring the WPLG Local 10 News at 4:50 pm, 6:00 am and 11:00 pm in Miami, Florida. His career has brought him opportunities to serve as an anchor and reporter in three of the top 10 media markets in the country, including Philadelphia, Atlanta and Dallas. He reported from Lexington, Ky, Evansville, Indiana, and Columbia, Missouri. where he started his career at age 19.

Hughes and his family didn’t give up on diving into South Florida’s deeply diverse neighborhoods when he joined WPLG Local 10 News. He relentlessly sought the opportunity to comprehensively report on Haiti in 2008, after reporting a story about Haitian refugees who risked, in some cases, losing their lives on a deadly voyage scheduled for the shores of Miami. Afterwards, Hughes was well-prepared to be one of the Port-au-first Prince journalists to cover the devastating magnitude 7.0 earthquake that hit the region.

His passion and love for the people of Haiti has led him to return to the country more than a dozen times. Notably, Calvin was named Miami’s Best N=News TV Anchor in 2011 by The Miami New Times, noting that he professionally covered the Haiti earthquake.
