Cheryl Burton Biography
Cheryl Burton is a news anchor in the United States. Since 1992, Burton has worked for ABC 7 Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Cheryl co-hosts the station’s 5pm and 10pm newscasts with Alan Krashesky, and she previously co-hosted WCIU-7 TV’s pm news with Hosea Sanders.
Burton went to Lindblom Technical High School, which has since changed its name to Lindblom Math & Science Academy. She received her degree in 1980. She went to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urban after graduation. She studied biology and psychology here with the aim of studying medicine, but was worried about the cost. She was also a member of the Chicago Bears’ Honey B group as a college cheerleader.
Burton began her career as a child actress on the American children’s television show Romper Room. She then competed on Star Search as a contestant. She went on to host an hour-long cable TV show called Simply Elegant after that. In 1989, she began her career in journalism as a co-anchor on MBR: The Minority Business Report, a nationally distributed weekly show.
Cheryl moved to Peoria, Illinois, the following year to work as a reporter for WMBD-TV. In 1990, she moved to Wichita, Kansas to work as an anchor for KWCH-DT. She joined WLS-TV as a co-anchor and weekend reporter two years later in 1992.
Cheryl has worked as a news anchor for WLS-TV ever since. In addition to reporting, she is a public speaker for students at the Chicago Public Schools.
