Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, also known by his stage name Chike, is a famous Nigerian singer, songwriter and actor. He became recognized after participating in MTN Project Fame and The Voice Nigeria Season 1 edition where he emerged at No. 2. Osebuka is one of the Afro-R&B artists making waves in the music industry. Earlier, he received four nominations at the 2022 Headies Awards.
Ezekpeazu hails from Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria and completed his high school education from a local school in his hometown. He later attended Covenant University where he majored in Computer Engineering. Chike was inspired to become a musician as he comes from a family of talented musicians. He started singing in 2009 and has been involved in several contests that have helped shape his talent. While attending high school, he emerged as the winner of the best vocalist award in a competition.
After that, Ezekpeazu got involved in the West African Fame Project and made it to the top 10 before being eliminated in that round. He later participated as a contestant on Voice of Nigeria where he was chosen as one of the contestants. There he joined the Patoranking team and in the first round, he sang the song “Let Me Love Your” with another partner from his team and was chosen for the next round.
In the first week, Chike sang an emotional song called “Not the Girl” by co-coach Dare Art and got her first save from her coach. He melted people’s hearts in the second week after singing “Earned It” by The Weeknd and was saved by the public vote. Additionally, Chike gained popularity with a soulful rendition of “I’m Gonna Be” by The Proclaimer where he received the final save from his trainer. In the semifinal, he proceeded to sing “Pullover” by Kcee and Wizkid.
Also, at the end, Osebuka sang “No Woman No Cry” by Bob Marley and “Mama” by Kiss Daniel of the Wailers. He finished as runners-up for The Voice Nigeria season, with Team Waje’s A’rese coming in at number one. Afterwards, Chike was signed to Universal Republic along with the other four main contestants on the show. In 2016, he released his first single Fancy U under Universal Republic and its music video was released the following year. While still there, he was an ambassador for Airtel Nigeria along with the other seven finalists on The Voice Nigeria.
Furthermore, Ezekpeazu made her first debut in April 2017, playing the role of Mayowa Badmus in the TV drama Battleground. That same year, he left Universal Republic and became an independent artist. Before that, Chike released his next single titled “Beautiful People”. Two years later, he released his 14-track album called Boo of the Booless in a guest appearance on the 2020 TV show Big Brother Lockdown. Additionally, his album Boo of the Booless won Album of the Year at the City People Music Awards. He was also nominated three times for Best Vocal Performance, Best R&B Album and also Album of the Year. In 2022, he also released his second studio album titled “The Brother’s Keeper”
