Recently, the American political scene has become very interesting in many ways. One of the few people who has helped to make it so interesting is the former governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, a man who has also served as a federal prosecutor and political commentator and is in the Republican Party.

Chris Christie Bio

Christie was born in Newark on September 6, 1962. Nevertheless, he grew up in Livingston. Christie is of Italian, German, Scottish, and Irish descent and his family left Newark for Livingston, New Jersey when he was only five years old as a result of the 1967 riots in Newark.

He received his education at Livingston High School, from where he moved to the University of Delaware, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then transferred to the law school at Seton Hall University.

Christie entered the political scene as a moderate republican quite early. In 1995 he decided to take a shot at the state assembly, but he lost massively. Since the defeat, he decided not to run for office anymore but played as a party politician. During the 2000 presidential election campaign, he was an important fundraiser for George W. Bush.

After the election victory, Bush nominated Chris Christie as the United States attorney for New Jersey. Although he did not have much experience, he was able to achieve a lot in the office with 130 convictions.

It is thanks to this that he was easily accepted when he ran for governor of New Jersey in 2009. And as many expected, he won the race without sweating, making him the 55th Governor of New Jersey. Governor of New Jersey. He decided to run again in 2013, and this time he won without any problems after defeating the Democrat-nominated Barbara Buono in the November 2013 election.

During the 2016 American elections, Christie ran for President of the United States. After one of the most brutal election campaigns in American history, he lost the Republican ticket to Donald Trump.

Interestingly, as many expected, the former governor of New Jersey was not able to secure the Republican nomination, but what no one saw coming was his support for Donald Trump, which many saw as opportunism. This triggered a campaign calling for his resignation.

By the end of his term, Christie was labeled the least popular governor to have ruled the state. His time as governor was overshadowed by various scandals and controversies, so many were shocked when he announced that he was fighting for the first office in the country.

One of the fiercest battles he had in office was his battle with the teachers in the state. Another one that almost shook his administration was the Beachgate, where he and his family were photographed on the beach with his family when the government was closed. There was also the Bridgegate scandal he became involved in when he ordered the closure of the lane from Fort Lee, New Jersey, to the George Washington Bridge. He did this because the mayor of Fort Lee refused to support him for reelection.

After Chris Christie, the Republicans lost the state to the Democratic candidate, Phil Murphy, who defeated Kim Guadagno. This loss is said to be due to the failure of Christie. Although Guadagno tried to distance the then governor from the election campaign, he did little because the governor had already lost popularity.

He left office with the worst approval rate of all US governors in the last 20 years, with only 17% approval for his office.

Wife and Family

When he was a student at the University of Delaware, Christie met a woman who was also a student, Mary Pat Foster, and they started dating. In 1986, the two got married. That was 2 years after Christie’s graduation.
