Chris McKendry Biography
Chris McKendry is an American journalist who currently works as a journalist for ESPN. She joined the network in 1996. Prior to that, she co-anchored ESPN SportsCenter’s 11pm-1pm live show block. As of April 1, 2016, she serves as a full-time on-site host. That was for ESPN’s tennis coverage.
She attended Archbishop Ryan High School. Later, she attended and graduated from Drexel University. There she majored in Broadcast Journalism.
Prior to joining ESPN, she worked at the WJLA-TV ABC affiliate in Washington. There, she worked as a sports reporter. She debuted on SportsCenter on July 27, 1996. She returned to SportsCenter later that year. Upon her return, she co-hosted the weekend morning and weekday afternoon editions of the network’s top news.
Your work beyond SportsCenter includes a variety of tasks. This included a nightly presenter of ESPN’s 2007 Wimbledon coverage and coverage of the US Open for SportsCenter. Additionally, she served as a co-host for ESPN’s coverage of the Winter X Games host of the night.

This was for the X Games in 1997 and 1998. She also contributed to College Football Live during the 2007 season. McKendry was the secondary reporter for ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports’ broadcast of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She also served as a columnist on ESPN.com’s “Page Two”. That was in 2001 and 2002.
She has the distinction of being the first woman to work as a television sports news anchor in the Washington DC market. Furthermore, she received a regional Sports Emmy in the Outstanding Sports Segment category. That was in 1996. While on WJLA-TV, she was also a co-host of Redskin Magazine. She also served as a minor and future reporter for TNT and TBS. This was during the NBA playoffs.
She also worked as a sports anchor and reporter for the All-News Channel in Minneapolis. Additionally, she co-hosted her final SportsCenter broadcast on March 31, 2016. SH then transitioned to covering tennis full-time for ESPN with the Australian Open. That was in January and the US Open at the end of the summer.
