Christopher Kane is a Scottish fashion designer who has made a name for himself in the industry with his wickedly original ideas and designs. He was born in Scotland but moved to London in 2000 to study at Central Saint Martins, where he completed a foundation course in fine arts, a bachelor’s and master’s degree in fashion design.
After his studies, he got the chance to work with big names in the industry like Giles Deacon and Russell Sage. It was noticed by Donatella Versace in 2005 after winning the Lancôme Color Award. He also won the Harrods Design Award for his MA GRaduate collection, comprising £1,500 and a showcase at Harrods from 24 January to 8 March 2006.
In the same year, he started working on his own line and soon opened his own store with his sister. In February 2007, he welcomed his Capsule Collection to Topshop and won the Scottish Fashion Awards Designer of the Year Award. Later, in December of the same year, he became New Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.
His menswear collection debuted in early 2010 and his previous collection was also shown on the runway at Lakme Fashion Week in India. In the same year, he won the first £200,000 Vogue Fashion Found. Furthermore, he was added to the L20 roster and was number 45 on the roster. Kane left his partnership with Versace in November 2011.
