Christopher (Chris) Alan Nkunku is a French professional football player who plays as a midfielder or striker. He plays for Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and the French national team. Nkunku, a graduate of the Paris Saint-Germain academy, is known for his speed, technique and game intelligence. He is a versatile player who can play in both midfield and attack. His pace and skillful dribbling make defending opposing defenses look easy.

He made his senior debut for PSG at the age of eighteen and went on to win three Ligue 1 titles before switching to the Bundesliga. Christopher represented France at youth level from under-15 to under-21 before making his senior national debut in March 2022.

First days

Growing up in his hometown, Nkunku started playing football with his peers on the streets. He would soon become so attached to the game that he always made time to train after school. Fortunately, his family realized his potential early on and encouraged him to pursue his passion for the game. Consequently, young Christopher trained tirelessly to hone his skills.

In 2003, at the age of six, he enrolled at AS Marolles where he began his development. He moved to RCP Fontainebleau in 2009, where his speed, technique and vision were eminent from a young age. Nkunku was exceptionally versatile, he played in all midfield positions.

Paris Saint-Germain

Soon after, in 2010, he joined Paris Saint-Germain’s youth system, where he started out as a winger due to his speed and piercing ability. However, due to his excellent vision and passing, he was often deployed in midfield. He was part of the PSG youth team and was runner-up in the 2015-16 UEFA Youth League.

On 8 December 2015, he made his senior club debut in a 2–0 UEFA Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk. RB Leipzig

On 18 July 2019, Nkunku signed a five-year contract with German club RB Leipzig. He made his debut for the club on August 11, in the 3-2 victory over VfL Osnabruck, in a DFB-Pokal match. A week later, he made his Bundesliga debut by scoring his first competitive goal. This came in the first win of the 2019-20 season over regional rivals Union Berlin.

On 22 February 2020, in the 5-0 victory over Schalke 04, Nkunku provided four assists. Consequently, he became the second player to do so in recent Bundesliga history, after Szabolcs Huszti in 2012.
