Corey Andrew Knebel, known in the baseball sports world simply as Corey Knebel, was born on November 26, 1991, in Denton, Texas, the son of Jeffrey and Melissa Knebel. He grew up in Bastrop County, Texas, where he developed an interest in baseball. As a student at Bastrop High School, Corey played baseball on the school baseball team and was a letter winner for three years. He also won the district MVP. He later transferred to Georgetown High School for his graduation season.

After high school, Knebel attended the University of Texas, where he played with the Texas Longhorns baseball team. As a freshman, he played as a goal scorer, scoring a draw in a single season at the age of nineteen with Charlie Thames and J. Brent Cox’s school records for rescues. He was later named NCBWA Stopper of the Year and also won the Freshman of the Year awards from NBCWA and Collegiate Baseball Magazine.

He also won the All-Big 12 First Team Conference and the First Team All-American. He also played in his second year as a promoted player, scoring a total of 9 parries and 2.08 ERA at the end of the season and winning first-team All-Big 12 awards for the second consecutive year. He made his first appearance in the MLB in May 2014 in a game against the Texas Rangers. In July of the same year, he was transferred to the Texas Rangers alongside Jake Thompson in exchange for Joakim Soria. After the swap, the Rangers hired Corey to play for their triple-A team – the Round Rock Express. During a game in August, he suffered an ulnar collateral ligament on his elbow, and his season ended.

In January 2015 Corey Knebel was traded again, this time to the Milwaukee Brewers alongside Marcos Diplan and Luis Sardiñas in exchange for Yovani Gallardo. In May he replaced Neftalí Feliz as the Brewers’ permanent confidant. In June, at the age of 38, he set an MLB record for the most consecutive appearances, with at least one strikeout by a relief pitcher, a record first set in 2014 by Aroldis Chapman, who was playing for the Cincinnati Reds at the time.

However, his series ended after forty-five games after failing to strike out in a blown save against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In April 2018, he injured his left hamstring while pitching in a game against the Chicago Cubs and was put on the injury list. He came back in May but fought throughout the tournament. After forty-one appearances with a 3-2 record of 5.08 ERA, Corey Knebel was demoted to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox – a Colorado Minor League baseball team.
