Courtney Lee is a professional basketball star who runs his business with the New York Knicks of the NBA. He joined the Knicks in 2016 as an 8-year-old NBA veteran after turning pro in 2008. After an illustrious college career at Western Kentucky University, he was selected in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Orlando Magic.

Courtney Lee was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on October 3, 1985. His parents are Teer Butler and Anthony Lee Sr. When he grew up, his father was mostly absent, so he was raised by his single mother along with 2 siblings.

He went to school at Pike High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. Among other highlights of his high school career, he was part of the school team that won the Indiana 4A State Championship in 2003. He also won several state championships with the AAU team of Indy Hornet. By the end of his high school career, Lee was considered a 3-star recruit and also ranked 34th in the nation’s Shooting Guards in the 2004 class. He was recruited for the men’s basketball team by coach William Small, then assistant coach of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

In his first season, Lee set a new school record for total points, scoring 461 points in 31 events. After his record-breaking first season, the talented youngster was in top form throughout his college career when he was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference from his second to last season (2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007-08). He also led the team to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2008 NCAA tournament and won the Sun Belt Player of the Year award in his senior season. In the 128 appearances of his 4-year college career, Courtney Lee took a total of 3,957 minutes, scored 82% of free throws, made 245 three-point shots, had 242 steals, 281 assists, and 78 blocked shots.

Career Stats

Courtney Lee was ranked 22nd by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the 2008 NBA Draft, and had a total of 77 appearances in his rookie season, averaging 8.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1 steal per game. In June 2009, he joined Rafer Alston and Tony Battie in the New Jersey Nets in exchange for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson.

In his only season with the New Jersey Nets (2009-10), Courtney Lee recorded a career highlight with 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. He led the Nets in total steals (93), three-point shots (76), and free throws (86.9%). Despite his impressive form, he was transferred to the Houston Rockets in August 2010 as part of a multi-team multiplayer deal.

During the 2010/11 season at the Rockets, Lee averaged 8.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. The following season, his goalie average was increased to 11.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. After two seasons at the Rockets, he was transferred to the Boston Celtics in July 2012.

Courtney Lee, however, did not perform as well during his two-year tenure at the Boston Celtics. In his first season (2012-13) at the Boston Celtics, his peat average dropped to 7.8 points and 2.4 rebounds. The following season, the NBA star earned less playing time, and his peat festival average continued to drop to a career-low of 7.4 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. At the end of the 2013-14 season, he was transferred to the Memphis Grizzlies in a multi-way deal.

Courtney Lee averaged 11.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in his first season with the Grizzlies. The following season he finished the season with 10.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. In his last season (2015-16) with the grizzlies, he averaged 10.0 points and 2.3 rebounds. In February 2016 he moved to the Charlotte Hornets in mid-season, where he spent the rest of the 2015-16 season. He started in all 28 outings with the Hornets with an average of 8.9 points and 3.1 rebounds.

Lee was signed as a Free Agent by the New York Knicks in July 2016. In his first season with the Hornets, he averaged 10.8 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Before the 2017-18 season began, he was named co-captain of the team and finished the season with an average of 12 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.

When Courtney Lee joined the New York Knicks in July 2016, she signed a 4-year contract worth $48,003,340 with an average annual salary of $12,000,835. His base salary for the 2018-19 season is $12,253,780, and this amount will be increased to $12,759,670 for the 2019-20 season, the final year of the contract.
