Cynthia Newsome Biography
Cynthia Newsome is an award-winning American journalist who currently works as the midday anchor for 41 Action News since joining the station in January 1997. Prior to joining her current station, she worked as a weekend anchor at KWTV Channel 9 in Oklahoma City for 13 years. She has also been a reporter for KFOR-TV and WKY Radio.
Throughout her career, she has won numerous awards. In 2012, she was inducted into the Mid-American National Association of Television Arts and Science’s Silver Circle for Excellence in Broadcasting and Community Service. Additionally, her reporting on Radon Awareness and Lung Cancer won First Place in the American Cancer Society High Plains Chapter’s Media Awards for Community Awareness in 2008. She also received Third Place for In-Depth Reporting from The Kansas Association for her 2007 investigative expose of a former Central High School student.
After her career, some of her notable stories include the Oklahoma City bombing of the Murrah Federal Building. Her reports on the lives of the victims of the bombing are displayed at the Oklahoma City Memorial and Museum in Oklahoma City. Cynthia is an active member of the community and community involvement is at the top of her list of priorities. In 1997, she founded an organization called Awesome Ambition, which is a high school college and career readiness program for girls in grades 8-12 in the Kansas City Public School District.
