Biography of David Bernard
David Bernard is an American meteorologist who currently works as the chief meteorologist at WVUE-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana. Prior to that, he worked as a meteorologist for CBS News and television stations in Miami, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A native of Houston, Texas, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. He later attended Mississippi State University. After graduation, he began his career as a television meteorologist, forecasting in the Tornado Alley region of the Texas Panhandle and Oklahoma. He first worked at television stations KZTV in Corpus Christi, Texas, and KVII in Amarillo, Texas.
He later moved to WWL-TV in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1997. David was the station’s morning news meteorologist for eight years. His coverage of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 earned him critical acclaim for Dave Walker. David left WWL in the summer of 2005 for a new position at Miami-based CBS affiliate WFOR.
Six weeks after his departure from New Orleans, he was sent back to New Orleans to cover the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In addition, he was named national hurricane consultant for CBS News in 2008 and covered hurricanes Gustav, Ike, Isaac, Irene, and Sandy. Bernard returned to New Orleans to work for WVUE-TV and was named chief meteorologist after several months.
