Diego Gutierrez is an American professional soccer player who plays as a forward for the Portland Timbers, a Major League Soccer club. He was titled First Team All-Summit League in 2018. Previously, Gutierrez played for Creighton University during his senior year and was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year. Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, United States.
He graduated from Ralston High School, where he finished as the top scorer with 112 goals and 43 assists. He also holds first-team All-Nebraska honors and was a four-time All-State selection. Furthermore, Gutierrez also played football for Elite Academy clubs. He also competed at the University of Nebraska Omaha to play college football. From 2017 to 2019, he played for the Mavericks, where he scored 10 goals and added 13 assists.
During his time there, Diego was named the Summit League All-Newcomer Team and Summit League All-Tournament Team in 2017. Additionally, the following year, he was titled First Team All-Summit League. Two years later, he transferred to Creighton University for his senior year. While there, Gutierrez scored 15 goals in the 30 matches he played. Thereafter, he was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year and twice selected to the All-Big East First Team.
As of 2022, Gutierrez is on a contract with the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. That year, he appeared on March 12 as an 87th-minute substitute during a 1–0 win over Austin FC.
