Dorothy Norwood is an American gospel singer-songwriter who began singing with Mahalia Jackson in 1956. She began traveling a lot with her family at the age of eight.
In the early 1960s, Norwood was a member of The Caravans. However, in 1964, she embarked on a solo career with her first album, Johnny and Jesus. His 1991 album Live with the Northern California GMWA Mass Choir peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Top Forty.
Having her roots deep in Atlanta, Georgia, she began singing and touring with her family at the age of eight. In 1956, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, and soon began singing with gospel singer Mahalia Jackson.
Shortly afterwards, in the early 1960s, Norwood joined the gospel group The Caravans, which included gospel music legends such as; Queen of the Gospel Albertina Walker. Furthermore, Albertina is Norwood’s role model and confidant.

In her 50+ years in the gospel music industry, Dorothy has recorded over 50 albums, five of which have been certified gold.
In 1972, Norwood was signed to a 30-state American tour with Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones. Through this tour, she was able to spread the Gospel in a mission field that was practically closed to gospel artists.
Evangelista Norwood has released 52 solo albums to date, including his recent album An Incredible Journey. This was on her record label Dorothy Norwood Music Group (DNMG). In October 2014, An Incredible Journey peaked on Billboard Gospel Music at #2.
In February 1991, Evangelist Norwood signed to Malaco Records and recorded live with the Northern California GMWA Mass Choir.
