Elizabeth Cook is an American journalist who currently works as a co-anchor for KPIX 5 News at 5pm and 11pm. She is a seven-time Emmy winner and a two-time Edward R Murrow Award winner. In 2012, Cook received a NorCal RTNDA Award. Elizabeth began her career as a reporter in Palm Springs, eventually rising to a morning anchor and then the main night anchor for NBC affiliate KMIR.
His interest in journalism began in high school. She recalls her insights;
“I was Rose Princess for the Tournament of Roses and that required a lot of public speaking,” she recalls. “NBC’s Tom Brokaw was the Rose Parade Grand Marshall. We went to many events together and I got to know him very well. I loved hearing her amazing stories from her career and was inspired by her immense compassion for people.”
After completing your broadcasting degree from the prestigious School of Communication and Journalism USC Annenberg, Elizabeth interned at ESPN and also worked on The Jane Pauley Show on NBC. Immediately after graduation, she landed her first on-air reporting job in Palm Springs.
Cook reported, produced and served as a multimedia journalist before rising to the position of lead news anchor at KMIR-TV. On the station, she covered two of the deadliest fires in California history, the death of President Gerald Ford and the visits of President George W. Bush.

A few months after joining KPIX 5 News as a 5pm co-anchor, Cook went on a mission in the San Francisco district covering a chaotic Occupy march when a protester shoved her and her cameraman. Within moments, the team managed to rescue and filled out their report for the 11pm news. Afterwards, it became routine for Elizabeth to finish her 5pm show and then hop on a live truck to cover breaking stories across the Bay Area for the 11pm news.
In 2013, Cook was promoted to co-anchor the 11pm edition of KPIX News alongside Ken Bastida. On the station, she extensively covered the Occupy movement and the illegal sale and transport of weapons in Oakland. She also recounted the Bay Area’s connections to some of the world’s greatest stories. Notably, she profiled a Bay Area man who helped Syrian refugees escape their country; she reported on the California company developing a serum to treat the Ebola virus; and covered a new medical device that is unlocking some of the mysteries of Parkinson’s disease.
In addition, Cook exposed the illegal transport of horses from California to out-of-state slaughterhouses, not to mention the controversial experiment to protect an endangered species of owl in Humboldt County. Over the course of her career, Elizabeth has been in love with some of the Bay Area’s most intriguing women, from the first editor-in-chief of the San Francisco Chronicle, Audrey Cooper, to the 49ers’ general counsel, Hannah Gordon.
Elizabeth has received ten Emmy Awards and two Edward R Murrow Awards, as well as two NorCal RTNDA Awards. When not working, Cook enjoys chasing after her son Beau, exploring San Francisco restaurants with her husband, and undertaking his never-ending quest to find the best coffee in the Bay Area.
