Enes Kanter is an American professional basketball player who is currently a free agent. He was one of the players selected in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz. A center, he has played for five NBA teams since joining the league in 2011. He even represented the Turkish national team in international games between 2008 and 2015.
Born in Switzerland, Kanter moved to the United States at age 17 to play basketball. He ended up attending Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nevada, and then Mountain State Academy in Beckley, West Virginia. Unfortunately, no schools allowed him to play high school basketball because of his Nike contract.
He then attended Stoneridge Preparatory School in Simi Valley, California, where he was able to play basketball for one season. His professional career began immediately after moving to the United States of America. He played under the management of Serdar Apaydin for Fenerbahce’s youth team between 2006 and 2008.
On February 19, 2015, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a three-team deal that also involved the Detroit Pistons. Two days later, he made his debut for the Thunder, recording a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. On July 9, 2015, he received a four-year, $70 million offer from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Three days later, the Thunder exercised their right of first refusal and matched the offer sheet extended to Kanter by the Trial Balzers. Later, on March 14, 2016, he scored 26 points in a 128–94 win over the Portland Trail Blazers. Recently, on August 13, 2021, he signed a one-year minimum contract worth $2.7 million with the Boston Celtics.
On February 10, 2022, he was traded, along with Dennis Schroder and Bruno Fernando, to the Houston Rockets. All were exchanged for Daniel Theis. Unfortunately, he was released in February by the Rockets. The main reason for his resignation was his views on the Chinese government.
