Harry Enten is an American journalist currently working as a senior writer and analyst for CNN Politics. He is also famous for his former role as a senior political writer and analyst for the website Five Thirty Eight.
Enten was described by the Columbian Journalism Review as being from a new generation of political journalists, focusing on data-driven journalism rather than reporting from the campaign.
Raised in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, New York, Enten was introduced to politics as a child. His father, a judge, took him to the voting booth to help pull the levers for the elections. Enten attended Riverdale Country School and later graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College in 2011.
After graduating, he started his career by publishing a blog called Margin of Error and interned at the NBC News Political Unit in Washington. He was also a journalist for The Guardian before working for FiveThirtyEight.
He was one of the first people Nate Silver hired when FiveThirtyEight relaunched under ESPN along with Walter Hickey and Carl Bialik. Enten primarily wrote policy articles for FiveThirtyEight, but occasionally wrote articles about the weather.
Additionally, he was one of the co-hosts of the politics podcast FiveThirtyEight, alongside Jody Avirgan, Nate Silver, and Clara Malone. However, he announced on February 5, 2018 that he was leaving FiveThirtyEight to join CNN’s policy team as a senior political writer and analyst.
