Harry Smith is an American television journalist who currently works for NBC News, MSNBC and CNBC as a senior correspondent. Previously, Smith hosted the CBS News morning shows The Early Show and CBS This Morning for 17 years.
Harry left CBS News to join NBC News as a correspondent and the now-canceled Rock Center magazine with Brian Williams. As of November 2015, Harry has also worked as an anchor for MSNBC, where he provided live daytime coverage of breaking news and events.

Smith’s first job after graduating was at radio stations KHOW and KIMN in Denver, Colorado, and WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio, between 1973 and 1981.
He worked for Denver-based KRMA-TV from 1981 to 1982 before moving to KMGH-TV, the then-CBS Denver affiliate, from 1982 to 1985 as a reporter and news anchor. He joined CBS News as a reporter in 1986 and was later promoted to correspondent in 1987.
Harry has contributed to The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather, 48 Hours and CBS News documentaries for 13 years. He spent most of his CBS career anchoring the CBS Morning Show. Harry, on the other hand, joined CBS This Morning as a co-anchor on November 30, 1987.
After his departure from the show, Harry hosted a weekly segment called Travels with Harry on the CBS Evening News. This show focused on interesting people and places from across the United States.

On October 28, 2002, Harry returned to the CBS morning show, then called The Early Show. He anchored the show for 8 years before CBS announced that Harry, along with co-anchors Maggie Rodriquez and Dave Price, would be leaving the show in late 2010.
Upon leaving the show, Smith became a senior correspondent for CBS News and a substitute anchor for CBS Evening News, Face the Nation and CBS News Sunday Morning.
On July 8, 2011, CBS News announced that Smith would leave the network after 25 years of service. NBC News later announced that Smith would join the network and contribute to the primetime news magazine Rock Center with Brian Williams.
However, following the cancellation of Rock Center with Brian Williams, Harry continued to report regularly on NBC News platforms. Furthermore, he is the substitute anchor for NBC Nightly News. He also contributes a weekly Sunday Mornings story to the weekend edition of NBC’s Today in a segment called Sundays with Harry.
He is currently part of a rotating group of co-hosts that has been occupying the co-anchor chair. This was after the seat was vacated by Lester Holt after he was named the anchor of NBC Nightly News.
