Jabari Smith Jr. is an American basketball player who played college basketball for the Auburn Tigers. He is considered by many to be one of the top prospects in the 2022 NBA Draft. He started playing college basketball in his sophomore year at Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone.
As a junior, he averaged 24.5 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Later in his senior season, he averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and three blocks per game, leading his team to the runners-up spot in the Class 3A state championship. He was named Mr. Georgia Basketball, Georgia Gatorade Player of the Year and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution All-Classification Player of the Year.
He was selected to the McDonald’s All-American Game, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit lists. Additionally, he competed for the Atlanta Celtics on the Amature Athletic Union circuit.
Most recently, he was a five-star consensus recruit and one of the best players in the class of 2021. On October 9, 2020, he announced his commitment to play college basketball for Auburn through offers from Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina. Furthermore, he became the highest ranked player to commit to Auburn in the modern era of drafting.
He made his college debut against Morehead State in a 77–54 victory for the Tigers. On February 16, 2022, he recorded a season-high 31 points in a 94–80 win over Vanderbilt. As a rookie, Smith averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and two assists per game. At the conclusion of his rookie season, he received many honors, including being named SEC Rookie of the Year.
On April 5, 2022, he declared for the 2022 NBA draft, waiving his remaining college eligibility. He is projected as a top three selection in the 2022 NBA draft and the possible first pick.
