Jeff Zucker biography
Jeff Zucker is a former American media executive and former president of CNN Worldwide. He oversaw CNN, CNN International, HLN and CNN Digital. Previously, Jeffrey was the CEO of NBCUniversal. He also served as Executive-in-Residence at Columbia Business School. Zucker resigned from CNN on February 2, 2020, after revealing that he did not disclose a romantic relationship with a high-ranking colleague.
Jeff was born into a Jewish family in Homestead Florida, Miami. He was captain of the North Miami Senior High School tennis team, editor of the school’s newspaper, and a teen freelance reporter for The Miami Herald. He was also the president of his second, junior and senior classes and later graduated from the school in 1982.
Prior to college, Jeff attended Northwestern University’s National High School Institute’s journalism program. He then joined Harvard University and was president of the school’s newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, during his senior year. Zucker graduated from Harvard in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in American history.
Immediately after graduation, Jeff began his career at NBC Universal when he joined the company’s Olympic unit in 1986. He served as president of NBC Universal Television Group from May 2004 to December 2005. Prior to that, Jeff was president of Entertainment, News & Cable Group since December 2003 and president of NBC Entertainment since December 2000.

Prior to joining NBC Entertainment, Jeff spent nearly eight years as an executive producer for NBC News’ Today. Under his leadership at Today, the show became the most-watched morning news in the country and the most profitable show on television.
In January 1992, he was named executive producer of Today, becoming the youngest executive producer in the show’s history. Additionally, he served as an executive producer for NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw in February and March 1993. In 2000, he was named president of NBC Entertainment.
On December 15, 2015, Zucker was promoted by NBC Universal to CEO of NBC Universal Television Group behind Robert Charles Wright, vice president of General Electric and president and CEO of NBC Universal. He later became president and CEO of NBC Universal on February 6, 2007.
Jeff also worked with former NBC colleague Katie Couric, producing her daytime talk show for Disney-ABC Domestic Television, Katie. However, he left the nut to become the president of CNN Worldwide on January 1, 2013. However, on February 2, 2021, Zucker announced that he would step down at the end of the year. In August 2021, it was reported that Jeff had no plans to leave until the WarnerMedia and Discovery, Inc. merger was completed.
Zucker resigned from CNN on February 2, 2022. He admitted in his resignation letter that he did not disclose a consensual relationship he had with Allison Gollust, CNN’s executive vice president and chief marketing officer when he started. After his departure from CNN, Zucker also stepped down as president of WarnerMedia News & Sports.
