Biography of Jerod Smalley
Jerod Smalley is an award-winning American sports journalist who currently serves as a sports director at WCMH-TV, NBC4 in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to joining NBC4, Jerod worked as a weekend sports anchor at WSAZ in Huntington, West Virginia.
Smalley is a graduate of marshall university with a BA in broadcast journalism. He joined NBC4 in 2004 as a weekend sports anchor, where he wrote, edited and mostly anchored weekend sports broadcasts. During the week, Jerod produced, wrote, filmed and edited stories. Furthermore, after two years of service, Smalley was promoted to sporting director and anchor in 2006.
Currently, Jerod is sporting director for NBC4. On the station, he reported on many events around the world, including the 2016 Rio Olympics, Super Bowls, NBA Finals, World Series, and various Ohio State National Championship appearances.
Smalley has received numerous accolades throughout his career, including Best Ohio News Anchor and the Associated Press Best Weather and Sports Award four times. Additionally, for their coverage of local sports, Smalley and the entire NBC4 sports team received numerous honors.
Currently, Jerod also hosts “The Autism Puzzle”, an NBC4 show. The show basically involves local stories about people living with autism. Through the show, Jerod and station NBC4 won four regional awards. Jerod is a keynote speaker who was addressed at the Autism Speaks National Leadership Conference. Additionally, he is a board member of Walk Now For Autism Speaks in Columbus.
