Biography of Jim Bittermann
Jim Bittermann is a Senior European International Correspondent currently working for CNN based in Paris. He joined CNN in 1996 and covered stories such as the death of Princess Diana in 1997, the NATO air strikes in Kosovo in 1998, the earthquake in Turkey in 1999 and the Football World Cup, among others.
Prior to joining CNN, Bittermann worked as a Paris-based news correspondent for ABC News from 1990 to 1996. While at ABC, he covered major international events including the Gulf War, the Middle East peace process, the dissolution of Soviet Union and the US Implantation in Somalia. In addition, his long-running ABC projects included Betrayed in Blood, a feature on the French AIDS-tainted blood scandal for PrimeTime Live, as well as two half-hour specials for Nightline with Ted Koppel, A Perfect Messiah and The Fashion Conspiracy.
Also, from 1978 to 1990, Jim worked for NBC News as a European correspondent. From 1978 to 1979 he was based in Rome and covered two papal transitions and the travels of Pope John II. From 1980 to 1990 he worked in Paris, where he covered many of the decade’s top international stories in Eastern Europe, the Middle East, North and West Africa, the Philippines, Japan and the Soviet Union. Bittermann won an Emmy Award for her work on one of Sudan’s famines in 1988.
Prior to joining NBC, Bittermann worked in Toronto as a correspondent and producer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corps.’ magazine. Furthermore, from 1973 to 1975, he worked as a reporter for WKYC-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. Prior to WKYC-TV, he worked for a year at WQED-TV, a public television network in Pittsburgh.

Jim’s awards include the CableACE Award for CNN’s coverage of the Zaire civil war.
