Jim Rose (Sports Anchor) Biography
Jim Rose is a well-known American sports anchor who works for ABC 7 Chicago, the ABC affiliate in Chicago, Illinois. He currently serves as the station’s sporting director and anchor on the 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm and 10:00 pm newscasts. Furthermore, Rose is also Vice President of the Swan Group, a non-profit group created to donate the “House of Swans” to a single mother from the Chicago area who achieved academic excellence in college. He joined the station in January 1982 and previously served on various channels such as WIXT-TV and WLS-TV, among others.
Jim was born and raised in Edison, New Jersey, United States. After high school, Rose enrolled at Rhode Island College, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication. Shortly after graduating from college, Jim worked in the US Army, and while there, he began his broadcasting career as the sporting director for AFN-TV in Berlin, West Germany. Furthermore, he also worked at WIXT-TV in Syracuse, New York as well as the WLS-TV network.
Furthermore, Rose is also Vice President of the Swan Group, a non-profit group created to donate the “House of Swans” to a single mother from the Chicago area who achieved academic excellence in college. In 2006, he handed over the keys to a 2,000-square-foot home to a single mother with two children averaging 3.8 years old. In addition, he also continues to volunteer his time to help many generous groups and worthy causes throughout the Chicago area. He considers helping those in need to be one of his greatest achievements, despite being honored with numerous awards.
On ABC7 News, Rose plays a major role in the station’s programming specials. He also contributes to ABC 7’s Emmy Award-winning Our Chicago, a series of specials that celebrate the rich culture of Chicago’s African-American community. Prior to that, he also hosts ABC 7’s annual broadcast of one of the nation’s largest parades, the Bud Billiken Parade. Jim is currently working as the co-host of the station’s one-hour live special, The Chicago Auto Show.
