Jimmy O. Yang is an American actor, comedian and writer. He is best known for appearing as Dr. Chan Kaifang in the Netflix comedy series Space Force, as Jian-Yang in the HBO comedy series Silicon Valley, and as Josh Lin in the comedy film Love Hard. Yang was born in Hong Kong but raised in Los Angeles, California. He got his basic education from John Burroughs Middle School and later enrolled at Beverly Hills High School.
After high school, he continued his studies at California University in San Diego, where he majored in economics. His career began when he performed stand-up at the Ha Ha Comedy Club in North Hollywood, Los Angeles. He also worked as a car salesman at a strip club and sit-in customers at a comedy club. After that, he applied to Central Casting, due to the low entry barrier, and various casting websites.
He later made his first television debut on the CBS series 2 Broke Girls and also appeared on The Arsenio Hall Show. Afterwards, Yang starred as Tang-See in Season 9 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Similarly, he also appeared in an episode of Criminal Minds as Nathan Chow, a high school student who suffered a psychotic break. Furthermore, he provides a voice in the Infamous Second Son video game. Jimmy also appeared as a guest on Silicon Valley in three episodes of the series.
In 2016, he played Dun “Danny” Meng in the action drama Patriots Day. He later played Bernard Tai in the romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians directed by Jon M. Chu. A year later, Jimmy was cast in the Netflix comedy series Space Force as Dr. Chan Kaifang. Prior to that, he also co-starred with Nina Dobrev in the romantic film Love Hard.
