Joc Pederson is a professional baseball player who plays outfield in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He made the MLB draft in 2010, but did not debut in the Major League until 2014 and then made All-Star in 2015. Although he will spend many more years in the Major League, he has already become an important part of the Dodgers.

Joc Pederson Biography

The Dodgers’ outfielder was born on April 21, 1992, in Palo Alto, California, as Joc Russell Pederson. He is of Jewish descent and comes from an athletic family with a father who played professional baseball and a mother who was once a sports coach. Thanks to this, he was able to start very early with the help of his father, Stud Pederson, his brother, and his mother, Shelley Pederson. He attended Palo Alto High School, where he played baseball for the school team. The Dodgers, for whom his father had played in 1985 before he became coach, made him their favorite in the 11th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.

Before being drafted, he had the idea of going to the University of Southern California like his father. However, he signed a contract with a $600,000 bonus, the second-highest ever received by a player selected by the Dodgers after the fifth round.

He played in the Pioneer League for the Ogden Raptors, where he became All-Star in the Rookie League and All-Star in the Topps Short-Season/Rookie League. He then received a well-deserved promotion to the California League’s Class A (Advanced) Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, where he also did well, so much so that he was named Minor League Player of the Year for the Dodgers.

Next up, Joc played for the Mesa Solar Sox in the Arizona Fall League and for the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Southern League. He later played for the Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League.

He played in the Minor League until 2014 when he was called to the Major League by the Dodgers. He made his debut with a defeat at the Washington Nationals. From then on, he would continue to play for the team with which he was promoted to All-Star in 2015.

Interestingly, the outfield player of Jewish descent played for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic games.

Brother, Wife, And Girlfriend

Joc Pederson grew up with two older brothers and a younger sister. His oldest brother, Champ Pederson, who was born with Down syndrome, also found himself in baseball, where he gives team speeches and has become a strong motivator for both his brothers and many others. According to Shelley, thanks to Champ, all of her other children have reached the heights that they are now.

Today Tyger works as head coach for the Duluth Huskies. His sister, Jacey Pederson, is a soccer player.

In 2018 Pederson married Kelsey Williams, who had been his girlfriend for a long time. The couple got engaged in 2017 before finally deciding to tie the knot for life a year later in Glendale, California.

Like other members of his family, his wife is also into athletics. Kelsey Williams played both high school and college volleyball at Amador Valley High School and Duke University, where she studied psychology. In October 2018 she gave birth to the couple’s first child, Poppy Jett Pederson.

Joc Pederson Salary

Pederson has come a long way in MLB. In 2018 he signed a $2.6 million contract with the Dodgers to keep him on the team for another year. With the contract signed in January 2018, the Dodgers avoided a salary arbitration hearing. Since it is a one-year contract, this means that he will take home $2 million as his 2018 salary. This is a significant increase over the $555,000 he earned in 2017.
