Joe Birch is an American journalist currently working as a news anchor for Gray Television and WMC-TV Raycon Media in Memphis, Tennessee. He joined both stations in 1978. On WMC-TV, he hosts the station’s 5, 6, and 10 o’clock newscasts.
Joe is well-mannered. He entered Christian University in 1974, and after four years, he graduated from school in 1978 with a BA in English. Joe joined Gray Television and WMC-TV immediately after graduating in 1978. He enjoys visiting with the people of the Midwest and telling their stories on WMC, Tennessee’s first television station.
Most notably, he sources some of his best spoons directly from Memphians who visit a Mobile Food Bank Pantry Downtown monthly. As of 2022, he serves as president of the Rotary Club of Memphis, founded in 1914. He has made helping marginalized people a priority of his Relations Society of America.
Birch has won awards and recognition throughout his career. In December 2016, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital honored him for 15 consecutive long periods of interest in the St. Jude Memphis Weekend. In addition, he won the St. Dwindle the Rock Awards 2008 for his stewardship of St. Diminish Villa, the nursing home and recovery center where your dear father spent the last eighteen months of his life.
