Joe Manganiello is a renowned American film actor, producer, director, author and narrator who managed to win Emmy Awards. His first cast professionally is when he played a role as Flash Thompson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man. His breakout role came in the form of werewolf Alcide Herveaux in five seasons of the HBO series True Blood.
In turn, he was named “Favorite Pop Culture Werewolf of All Time” and also one of the “100 Fittest Men of All Time” by Men’s Health. Furthermore, Manganiello has over 40 acting credits for his castings in various movies and television series.
Manganiello appeared in a number of productions on the Pittsburgh theater scene while studying at Carnegie Mellon University, including Ulfheim in Henrik Ibsen’s When We Dead Awaken, Lorenzo in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice for Quantum Theatre, and Joe in the Pittsburgh premiere of The Ballyhoo’s Last Night.
After graduating from Carnegie Mellon, he moved to Los Angeles, California. He was soon signed to a talent agent and auditioned for the role of Peter Parker in the Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man movie three days later (2002). As his first acting job out of college, he won the role of Eugene “Flash” Thompson, Peter Parker’s arch-nemesis. He returned to the character a few years later in Spider-Man 3, making a brief appearance at the end of the film (2007).

In 2006, Manganiello landed a role as Tori Spelling’s boyfriend on VH1’s So Notorious, and later appeared in guest roles in Las Vegas, Jake in Progress and Close to Home. In the CBS television pilot Edison, he also played the sponsor of John Leguizamo’s Alcoholics Anonymous. He made guest appearances on the Scrubs episode “My No Good Reason” as well as the MyNetwork TV soap opera American Heiress in 2007. For a four-episode arc on NBC’s ER, he also played Officer Litchman, Linda Cardellini’s love interest. .
In May 2007, he returned to the stage as The Chick Magnet in the New York premiere of Gloria Calderon Kellett’s monologue Skirts & Flirts, for which he was a finalist at HBO’s Aspen Comedy Festival. Later, in 2008, he returned to the West Virginia Public Theater to play Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by his former Carnegie Mellon teacher Geoffrey Hitch.
In June 2009, he played Leo Belraggio, a jazz musician from New York, in Terrence McNally’s Unusual Acts of Devotion, which had its West Coast debut. The drama was presented at the La Jolla Playhouse at the University of California, San Diego. Manganiello created the role during the Ojai Playwrights Conference with McNally and director Leonard Foglia the previous summer.

On the CBS comedy How I Met Your Mother, he played Brad for several seasons. In 2008, he was cast in the fifth season of the CW drama One Tree Hill, playing bartender Owen Morello. He filmed the sixth and seventh seasons of the show in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Manganiello appeared in two episodes of the Fox sitcom ‘Til Death and acted in the short film Wounded, which he wrote and directed and won Best Short Film at the 2011 Big Island Film Festival. In 2009, he played Lieutenant Sean. Macklin, a Navy SEAL squadron leader, in the direct-to-video action thriller Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia.
He trained for several months with a former Navy SEAL, whom he paid to come to the location and stay at the cast’s hotel in order to bring realism to the production. The film was filmed in Puerto Rico. He starred in all three series of the CBS television show CBS and appeared in an episode of Medium in 2009.
