Jon Fort biography
Jon Fortt is an American journalist who is currently a co-anchor and reporter for CNBC. He is the co-anchor of CNBC’s TechCheck broadcast. He is also the creator and host of Fortt Knox. Fortt Knox is a technology, leadership and innovation brand that has existed as a podcast and streaming show since 2016.
Born on Long Island, New York, and later raised in Washington, Fortt attended Montgomery Blair High School. As president of the Student Government Association, he was among the students who organized protests to pressure the country to build a new school in its current location. In his senior year, he won the Knight-Ridder Minority Journalism Scholarship.
He went on to attend DePauw University, where he was part of the Media Fellows honors program. He also worked at the student newspaper The DePauw. After a few years, he graduated from university with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Writing. Most recently, on May 22, 2022, he delivered his commencement address at DePauw, a message titled “Love, Truth and Impact.”
Talking about his career, he started his post-college career at the Lexington Herald-Leader. While there, he was assigned to technology in 1999 after another reporter resigned. He later moved to California to join the San Jose Mercury News, the Silicon Valley hometown newspaper.
After years of ups and downs in his career, Fortt landed a position at CNBC in 2010. He joined the network as a technology correspondent in Silicon Valley. In 2013, CNBC brought him to their New York area headquarters.
