Jonathan Goodwin Biography
Jonathan Goodwin is a Welsh escapologist and daredevil who suffered a spinal cord injury while rehearsing for a stunt in October 2021. Originally from Pembrokeshire, Jonathan made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent in season 13.
During his audition on Britain Got Talent, Goodwin revealed that he had been doing stunts since he was 7 years old. Additionally, he explains the story and inspiration behind his feat when Harry Houdini first performed the act of escaping a straitjacket. He performed a horrible stunt where he had assistants cover him in fuel and once he was upside down, a flame was brought onto the stage, engulfing him immediately.
Jonathan competed in the series semifinals. The Final saw him perform a trick his daughter had planned for him, a basic hourglass, escaping a gravel crate. He later moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2020, he auditioned for American Got Talent and reached the semifinals before his eliminations. This was his first audition for American Got Talent.
In mid-October 2021, Jonathan was hospitalized after a maneuver involving two vehicles suspended in the air went wrong. The two vehicles then caressed him and caused him to fall 40 feet and miss the airbag that should have caught him.
He suffered multiple broken bones in both legs, lacerations to his face and burns, before later having scabs on his face and his hand in a bandage in a photo he posted on social media.

Jonathan made his television debut in Channel 4’s Dirty Tricks, and has since appeared in TV specials such as The Seven Stupidest Things to Escape From and Deathwish Live, as well as Discovery Channel’s One Way Out and How Not to Become Shark Bait, on which he allowed himself to be attacked by a Caribbean reef shark. In 2009, Goodwin returned to the Discovery Channel for a ten-part series One Way Out, co-starring engineer Terry Stroud. He also made a cameo appearance on an episode of Channel 4’s Balls of Steel, where his father helped him with a stunt.
On September 11, 2012, it was announced that Goodwin would star in his own series, The Incredible Mr. Goodwin, on UKTV’s Watch. The show debuted in early 2013 and included a wide range of stunts, from free-climbing buildings to “extreme planks”. As of July 2013, it was also broadcast on UKTV’s Dave and BBC America.
Goodwin did the trick of lying on a single nail and having a block of breeze broken across his chest with a sledgehammer on The Jonathan Ross Show on March 9, 2013. He made it to the finals of Britain’s Got Talent 13th series in April 2019, performing “buried alive”, the first time this act has been performed on stage.
