Joyce DeWitt is a renowned American actress famous for her role in the ABC series Three’s Company. She became a household name when she played Janet Wood on the ABC sitcom from 1977-1984.
Joyce was born on April 23, 1949, in West Virginia, United States. She had a love for the stage, attending acting classes during her Level 0. Furthermore, she majored in theater in college and later had her first stage appearance at the age of 13.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in acting from State University of Ballshe later enrolled for a master’s degree at University of California. She soon began auditioning for acting roles, where she made her debut in the 1977 film Baretta. This role lasted for seven years and later led to her becoming a renowned celebrity actress.
It has been widely reported that Joyce was mentored by Abe Vigoda. However, this was always wrong. Abe and DeWitt had just met when Joyce was performing at the summer stock a year after her graduation. This was after a director/teacher at UCLA convinced her to go to California for the school’s MFA program.
After Three’s Company came to an end in 1984, Joyce appeared on an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984, after which she dropped out. She continued acting with a section of a series, Noises Off at Michigan’s Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991.

She was later featured in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! A character dependent on her, voiced by another artist, appeared in a scene from 1997’s Pinky and the Brain. She appeared in a scene of Cybill and had an appearance in the penultimate scene of Living Single. His 2000s work incorporates TV shows including Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
Later, DeWitt co-produced and facilitated the 2003 NBC TV movie Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Three’s Company; Onscreen character Melanie Paxson portrayed DeWitt in the film. In late 2008, she also won a part in a standalone film called Failing Better Now.
In 2009, DeWitt appeared in a Married Alive generation stage in Calgary, Canada.
As of 2011, DeWitt was featured in Miss Abigail’s Guide to Dating, Mating, and Marriage in New York City. In 2011, she was also featured in a Canadian stage production of Dinner with Friends at the Aquarius Theater in Hamilton, Canada.
