Katie Katro is an American journalist who has currently worked at Action News since joining the station in 2018. She grew up watching Action News and in the process learned about American culture and traditions in her new hometown of Philadelphia.
Katro attended and graduated from Abington High School. It was through Abington’s strong communications program that Katro was able to delve into journalism, producing news stories that she filmed and edited for the Abington cable channel. During her senior year, she was editor-in-chief of her school’s newspaper, The Abingtonian, and received the Congressional Award Gold Medal for doing more than 400 hours of community service.
She majored in journalism at Temple University, where she graduated with 15 competitive internships in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC Immediately after graduating, she began working at 5NEWS in Fayetteville, Arkansas as a field reporter and fill-in anchor. Later, she worked as a reporter and anchor at the WTIC in Hartford. While there, she also served on the Communications Advisory Board at Manchester Community College.
Katro loves to give back to the community by helping student journalists get their foot in the door. In her spare time, she can be found cooking Albanian dishes or attending the English premiere. She is interested in learning about countries and cultures. Furthermore, Katie is very active on social media where she develops and undertakes many stories.
