Katy Blakey is an American journalist who currently works as a reporter and anchor for NBC5 News’ weekend nights and weekday reporting since joining the station in January 2015. Her work has been honored with Lone Star Emmy nominations, including Best news anchor, and recognized by the Oklahoma Associated Press.
Blakey is a proud graduate of McKinney High School and Southern Methodist University. Blakey graduated president of his class with a BA in Journalism and Political Science. After graduating, she interned at The Dallas Morning News and the WFAA during the political convention in Boston.
His career, on the other hand, began as an intern at Belo Corporation, where he researched and also dedicated himself to field production. She also worked as a reporter and anchor at KTEN-TV, Denison, Texas, where she presented three hours of morning news. While in Texas, she did an investigative report on private prison funding that resulted in layoffs and changes in local enforcement.

Blakey was also part of the morning crew for all Next Media radio stations in Texas, broadcasting news and entertainment. She also served as a reporter and anchor for KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City from June 2011 to November 2014. While there, she anchored the station’s fast-paced morning show in the aggressive breaking news market and was able to increase the weekend morning show ranking from 3rd to 1st in a year.
Furthermore, she was the first reporter at the scene of a deadly medical helicopter crash. Her reporting also included a hostage situation that ended with the rescue of a six-year-old girl, devastating wildfires and severe storms. Most notably, she joined the NBC5 staff in January 2015, where she anchored NBC5 News weekend nights and weekday reports. Blakey won an Emmy Award and was nominated for several others.
