Kay Cannon is an American actress, screenwriter, and producer, famous for her work in the film series Pitch Perfect, 30 Rock, and The New Girl. Additionally, she has been awarded three Writers Guild Awards and nominated for three Primetime Emmy Awards. Kay was born and raised in Illinois and received her education at Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood, Illinois.
After high school, she attended Lewis University in Romeoville, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and a Master of Education. Kay was also trained in improv at Second City and IO in Chicago. Her career started when she was hired to work as a performer at ComedySportz.
Later, she performed sketches and improvisations for theaters such as Amsterdam, Holland, The Second City in Chicago and Las Vegas. In 2013, she appeared in the independent film The Little Tin Man. She also worked as a producer and writer on the comedy series 30 Rock and the New Girl, in which she also starred. Two years later, she made a cameo in Pitch Perfect 2 and also appeared in the comedy How to Be Single alongside Rebel Wilson and Dakota Johnson.
