Keahi Tucker Biography
Keahi Tucker is an American journalist who currently works as an anchor and reporter for Hawaii News Now/KGMB (an affiliate of CBS). He joined the station in 2005. Prior to joining Hawaii News, he served as an anchor for Honolulu-based KGMB-TV. He is passionate about delivering high quality news and his team at Hawaii News Now is the most competitive team he has ever worked with.
Tucker attended and graduated from Waimea High School before enrolling at UH-Manoa for his degree in broadcast journalism. Immediately after graduation, Tucker took a job at radio station UH before joining Channel 9. His first real job was at KGMB-TV, where he served as an associate. While at KGMB at the time, he had $7 an hour to make calls, write short clips, edit videos, and fetch coffee for anchors.
The news director at the time refused to make Tucker a full-time reporter. The director sent Tucker to the least Hawaiian place in the country, like Topeka, Kansas. Tucker Station was literally in the middle of a cornfield. Despite this, Keahi was a rookie reporter for six months covering tornadoes and grain prices.
Later, the station’s main anchor resigned and Tucker was the only other person on the air on the station to replace him and the director had no choice but to give Tucker a chance. After the fight he got the chance and worked here for a few years before moving to Baltimore. In Baltimore, he received an overseas assignment to cover the 2004 Olympics in Greece. He then flew back to his hometown. He currently serves as an anchor for Hawaii News Now. It features the 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 10:00 pm news.
