Gill attended Rich Central High School in Olympia Fields, Illinois. Later, she graduated in 1986 as a senior. During his high school years, Gill led Rich Central to a second place in the IHSA Class AA Men’s State Basketball Tournament. The Charlotte Hornets picked Gill fifth overall in the 1990 NBA draft, and he was awarded the First Team All-Rookie for the 1990–91 season. Kendall also participated in an NBA Slam Dunk Contest.
