Additionally, Hawthorne starred as Kerissa Greenleaf in the Oprah Winfrey Network drama series Greenleaf. from 2016 to 2020.
Born in Jersey City, she attended and graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in musical theater. After graduating, she began working on stage, making her professional theater debut at the Alliance Theatre. Later, she moved to New York in the mid-1990s.
