Kitty Flanagan is an Australian comedian, writer and actress working in Australia and the United Kingdom. She has won several awards including the 2021 AACTA Award for Outstanding Comedy Performer and the 2022 TV Week Silver Logie Award for Most Popular Actress for her performance in Fisk. She is known for her work on the sketch comedy series Full Frontal and the talk show The Project.

Born and raised in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She attended and graduated from high school at Monte Sant’Angelo Mercy College in North Sydney. Kitty became interested in comedy at the age of 5 and appeared in a school musical production of Alice in Wonderland. She made her television debut as a writer/performer on the popular Australian sketch comedy show Full Frontal. She has also written for and appeared on The Micallef Program and The Fifty Foot Show. Since then, Flanagan has appeared on several TV shows like The Project, Rove Live, Have You Been Paying Attention? and Utopia.

In 2001, Kitty went to the UK to further her comedy career and do more stand-up. While there, she performed on television on The Sketch Show and appeared in various stand-ups on The World Stands Up for Comedy Central. She produced a short film, Dating Ray Fenwick, in which she starred in a small role. Prior to that, Flanagan also wrote for various BBC, Channel Four and Sky Television programmes. In Australia, she regularly appears on television shows such as Rove, Good News Week, Spicks and Specks and The Sideshow.

Additionally, Kitty starred in the Comedy Channel TV special I Can’t Believe It’s Not Better before joining The Project for segments on trending news topics. While in Australia, she toured with her stand-up comedy show Charming and Alarming. She also toured with her sister and co-star Penny Flanagan. In 2013, Flanagan toured Australia again in the stand-up show Hello Kitty Flanagan. That year, she also starred in the comedy series Utopia, where she played the role of Rhonda for three seasons. On The Project, Kitty created two segments which are “Spectacular Failures of the 21st Century” and “Troubleshooter”. As the series progressed, she created two other segments, “Bandwagon Rider” and “Human Barometer”.

She later resigned from The Project in August 2014. Flanagan became the third Adelaide Fringe Ambassador, succeeding singer Katie Noonan in 2015. Furthermore, she is also an advocate for writing and writers in the screening industry. She sponsored the Best Narrative Award at the 2015 Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival in Gympie and was a judge on screenplays for films in that category. Additionally, Kitty released her book titled Bridge Burning and Other Hobbies in 2018. That year, she featured an outline in her book called 488 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Idiots.

As of 2021, she co-created, co-wrote, co-directed and starred in the movie Fisk which aired on ABC TV. The series was nominated for two awards at the 2021 AACTA Awards. Flanagan also won Outstanding Narrative Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Performer for Kitty Flanagan.
