Kristi Nelson is an American journalist currently working for NBC 5 News in Dallas-Fort Worth. Most notably, her interest in journalism began when she was just 9 years old. She attended and graduated from Talented & Gifted Magnet High School at College Prep with a high school diploma. She later earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of North Texas. She later attended and earned a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School Journalism.
After her graduation, she began her media career as a newspaper reporter, interning at The Dallas Morning News during the summers before moving on to The Philadelphian Inquirer and eventually The Cincinnati Enquirer. She then received her first experience in the sports industry when she worked as a copywriter for the Publishing Ventures section of the National Basketball Associations Department of Communication.
Nelson has written features for commemorative magazines and NBA-branded publications such as Inside Stuff and Hoop, and has been a member of the media relations team for key events such as the NBA Finals, NBA All-Star Weekend and the NBA Draft. Her work in the NBA paved the way for her to become a published novelist. Nelson completed “The Chamique Holdsclaw Story” while still studying. At the time, she was studying for her master’s degree.
