Krystal Ball biography
Krystal Ball (Krystal Marie Ball) is an American political journalist and policy expert who co-hosts Rising with the Hill’s Krystal Ball and Saagar Enjeti, produced by Hill. She has appeared on Fox News, CNBC, CNN and Real Time with Bill Maher.
Previously, Krystal was a contract contributor to MSNBC, as well as a regular contributor to HuffPost. She is currently a co-host with Kyle Kulinski on the progressive podcast Krystal Kyle & Friends. In 2010, Ball was nominated by the Democratic Party for Congress in Virginia’s first congressional district. However, she lost to Republican incumbent Rob Wittman.

Ball is a certified public accountant as well as a business owner. Previously, she worked for federal contractor CGI Group and traveled to Louisiana to help with the courts’ efforts to recover after Hurricane Katrina. Furthermore, she is a former columnist for The Atlantic.
In 2010, Krystal ran to represent Virginia’s first congressional district in the United States House of Representatives, contesting incumbent Republican nominee Rob Wittman.
In October of the same campaign period, bloggers allegedly posted sexually suggestive pictures of Ball with her then-husband at a Christmas party in 2004. She blamed her opponent Wittman for the leak as part of a smear campaign.
However, Wittman objected to the allegations and ordered bloggers to withdraw it. In addition, he complained about the double standard of expectations for male and female candidates, citing the little attention Scott Brown got for posing nude previously on Cosmopolitan.

Krystal lost to Wittman by a margin of 63.90% to 34.76%. Despite her defeat, Ball was listed by Forbes as number 21 in “The 25 Most Powerful Women of Midterm Elections” magazine.
In May 2017, Ball created the People’s House Project, a political action committee working on behalf of Democratic causes. This committee was the biggest contribution to Richard Ojeda’s campaign for the West Virginia Senate.
Later, Krystal appeared on CNN, Fox News, and CNBC due to her 2010 campaign photo scandal. She also became a regular contributor to MSNBC and HuffPost. Between June 25, 2012 and July 31, 2015, Ball co-hosted the MSNBC show The Cycle alongside Touré, Steve Kornacki and SE Cupp.
In 2018, Krystal began hosting a webcast called Rising on The Hill, where she initially co-hosted the show alongside Buck Sexton, later getting Saagar Enjeti to replace Buck. On February 8, 2020, Ball and Enjeti released their book; The Populist’s Guide to 2020: A New Right and a New Left Are Emerging.
