Lance McCullers Jr Bio and Age
The Astros’ starting player was born on October 2, 1993, in Tampa, Florida, the son of Lance Graye McCullers Sr. and Stacie McCullers Jr. in the family of Lance McCullers. Like most people who make it far in any sport, Lance started playing very early in life thanks to his father who, as mentioned above, was also a baseball player.
Senior McCullers spent seven seasons in the MLB as a pitcher with the San Diego Padres from 1985 to 1988, the New York Yankees from 1989 to 1990, the Detroit Tigers in 1990, and then the Texas Rangers in 1992. He retired from the game just one year before his son was born. Nevertheless, the only thing he wanted for his child as an adolescent was to be able to play and enjoy baseball without any pressure, and so he hardly ever refers to his playing time.
Although the main sport of Lance McCullers Jr. had always been baseball, he also played a little soccer with his friend Jose Fernandez, with whom he also played baseball since they were both in high school. Unfortunately, Jose Fernandez, who also played in the MLB, died in 2016 after a boating accident. To pay his respects, Lance wore his number on his shoe.
McCullers Jr. attended Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida where he graduated. While in high school, he was an exceptional player who was named Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year in 2012. That year he was 13-0 for the school team.
Without going to college, Lance McCullers Jr. decided to participate in the 2012 MLB Draft and was named 41st in the Houston Astros.
