Lesley Stahl biography
Lesley Stahl is an American journalist who spent most of her career at CBS News, where she began working in 1971. Since 1991, Stahl has been a reporter for CBS’ 60 Minutes. Most notably, she is famous for her award-winning foreign news and television investigations and reporting. Through all this and determination, she has won several journalism awards, including a Lifetime Achievement News and a Documentary Emmy Award in 2003.
Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, she attended and graduated from Wheaton College in Massachusetts, where she graduated with honors, majoring in history. After graduating, she began her television broadcasting career on Boston’s original Channel 5, WHDH-TV, as a producer and on-air reporter.
She joined CBS in 1971 and became a correspondent in 1974. Before she could join 60 Minutes, she served as a CBS News correspondent in the White House during the presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan. Reports of her appeared frequently in the CBS Evening News.
During much of that time, Lesley served as a moderator for Face the Nation. As a moderator, she interviewed several world leaders such as Margaret Thatcher, Boris Yeltsin and Yasser Arafat. She co-hosted American Tonight alongside Charles Kuralt. Throughout her 50-year career in journalism, she has covered some of America’s most iconic moments.
Throughout the 21st century, she investigated the improved interrogation methods against Al Qaeda during the Iraq War. In 2020, she gained a lot of media attention for her interview with President Donald Trump. In the interview, Trump interrupted the interview and left due to his objections to her warning him about “tough questions” that Trump believed were “inappropriate.”
