David Andrew Burd, also known by his stage name Lil Dicky, is an American rapper, comedian, and actor. He rose to fame in 2013 when he released his music video “Ex-Boyfriend” which went viral with over a million views on YouTube within 24 hours. His popularity also increased after the release of “Freaky Friday” with Chris Brown, which became a worldwide hit. In 2019, Andrew released a music video for songs, “Earth”, which featured many singers and actors, including Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Kevin Hart, Wiz Khalifa, and Katy Perry, among others. In addition, he also created a television comedy series based on Burd’s life called Dave, along with producer Jeff Schaffer.
David was born and raised in Cheltenham Township, Pennsylvania, United States. He completed his secondary education at Cheltenham High School and later enrolled at Richmond University. There he met other artists such as rapper Dave East, who studied there together. In 2010, he graduated summa cum laude. After graduation, he moved to San Francisco, California, where he worked in account management at the advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. In 2011, he released his debut mixtape called So Hard, which took two years to complete.
Two years later, Lil Dicky released the music video for his song “Ex-Boyfriend”, the mixtape which went viral reaching one million views within 24 hours of being posted on YouTube. After his mixtape success, he hosted his first live show at TLA in Philadelphia. Later, he signed a contract with CMSN, which also manages Tyga and Chiddy Bang’s records. In 2015, he released his first debut album called Professional Rapper featuring various artists such as Rich Homie Quan, Fetty Wap, Brendon Urie and Snoop Dogg among others.

In addition to singing, David was also featured in a Funny or Die video, “Watch Yo Self”, with Mystikal and Trinidad James. A few months later, he was listed in XXL magazines along with other famous artists like Anderson-Paak, Kodak Black, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage and Dave East, among others. Furthermore, Lil Dicky also released a music video for “Pillow Talking” which became the 49th most expensive music video ever created. After that, he released his EP under his alter ego Brain, I’m Brain, and later released one of his superhit singles called “Freaky Friday” featuring Chris Brown.
Within weeks, the video peaked at over 100 million views and topped the charts in New Zealand and the UK. In 2018, he went on his first Australian tour and later released a single called “Earth” featuring many artists including Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes and Ariana Grande. Additionally, Burd and Jeff Schafer created a TV series called Dave, which depicts a fictionalized version of Burd’s life as a rapper. The show aired on FXX in March 2020. This year, in June, David released a soundtrack album for Dave.
