Lydia Esparra is an American journalist currently working at WKYC 3News after returning to the station on August 31, 2021. Before leaving the station and returning, she worked as a weekend news anchor and general assignment reporter from 2000 to 2008. Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2004 and in 2007, Lydia won an Emmy for Outstanding Weekend Newcast.
Born and raised in Youngstown, she attended Ohio State University, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications. She became the first Latino news reporter on a Cleveland television station. In addition, she received the Robert G. McGruder Diversity in Media Distinguished Leadership Award from Kent State University.
Before returning to Ohio in 1997, she was Community Affairs Manager for WCIX-TV. Lydia moved to Georgia working at WFXL-TV in Albany as a reporter and anchor. She then became the head of the WTVM-TV office in Columbus, Georgia. Furthermore, she conducted several interviews with former President Jimmy Carter. She also received the Media Award from the Association of Federal Law Enforcement Officers for her coverage of Georgia State Prison reforms.
