Major Garrett Biography
Major Garrett is an American journalist who currently serves as chief correspondent for CBS News. He is also the host of The Takeout podcast and was a correspondent for the National Journal. Major arrives at CBS News from FOX News, where he was the senior White House correspondent. Some of his accomplishments are covering the 2004 presidential election, the war on terror and the 2008 presidential election.
Born in San Diego, he attended and graduated from James Madison High School. He later attended the University of Missouri where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 1984. He is currently a member of Phi Gamma Delta.
He was senior editor and congressional correspondent for United States News & World Report before joining CNN. He joined CNN as a White House correspondent in early 2000. Later, in 2002, he joined Fox News as a general reporter. While there, he covered the 2004 election among many other stories.
On January 13, 2009, he became the senior White House correspondent for Fox News. However, he left the network on September 3, 2010, to join the National Journal. On November 18, 2012, it was announced that he would be joining CBS News as Chief White House Correspondent. Later, in December 2018, he was appointed Chief Correspondent for Washington. He currently hosts a weekly podcast “The Takeout”.
