Marc Anthony Thompson is a singer and guitarist from Panama, a country in Central America. Despite his involvement in the highly competitive music industry, much about Thompson is still unknown. Not much is known about Marc Anthony Thompson’s early life, but his musical career is said to have begun in New York, where he moved from his hometown of California. The musician released his two solo albums Marc Anthony Thompson and Watts & Paris in 1984 and 1989, respectively, which were distributed by Warners Bros Records and Reprise Records. This was followed by the birth of Chocolate Genius, which later became a full-fledged recording project.
Shortly after Chocolate Genius was founded, Marc Anthony Thompson was joined by a number of instrumentalists with whom he recorded the albums Black Music (1998) and Godmusic (2001). Their names include guitarist Chris Whitley, Ribot, Martin & Wood, keyboardist John Medeski, cellist Jane Scarpantoni, bassist Chris Wood, Vernon Reid, and avant-garde music group The Lounge Lizards.
The musician’s next album with Chocolate Genius Inc. was Black Yankee Rock, released in 2005 on Commotion Records. Their fourth album, entitled Swansongs, was released in 2010, followed by their fifth, Truth vs. Beauty (2016).
Black Yankee Rock is said to have produced a number of New York’s elite musicians including Oren Bloedow, Marc Ribot, Yuka Honda, Abe Laboriel Jr., Van Dyke Parks, David Stone, Me’Shell Ndegeocello, Glenn Patscha, and others.
