Marvin Jay Marquez Cuyugan, also known as Marvin Agustin, is a Filipino actor, chef, and businessman. Born and raised in Paco, Manila, Philippines. He is known for owning famous restaurants such as SumoSam, a Japanese restaurant, and Cafe Ten Titas in Filipino. Agustin was born and raised in Paco, Manila, Philippines.
Marquez attended the International School of Culinary Arts and Hotel Management. He began his acting career on ABS-CBN’s youth-oriented program Gimik, where he was paired with singer and actress Jolina Magdangal in 1996. He was also cast in soap opera Esperanza and miniseries Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako. In addition, Agustin also paired again with Magdangal as the lead in the soap opera Labs Ko Si Babe, the first Filipino romantic comedy series. From 2001 to 2003 Marvin worked as a presenter alongside his friend Dominic Ochoa and Rico Yan. However, in 2002 Yan passed away and his story was featured in the drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya in one of its episodes.
In addition, he was featured in a TV drama I Luv NY, and also appeared in an action series Asian Treasures. Agustin won his first TV and film acting awards in 2004 “Boxing Gloves” in Magpakailanman for his performance as Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao. The following year, he moved to the GMA Network, where he hosted a musical variety show on SOP Rules. While there, Marvin also hosted a comedy show entitled Outrageous & Courageous. In addition, he is part of the drama miniseries SRO Cinemaserye: Ganti Ng Puso.
Furthermore, Agustin, along with his friends Raymond Magdaluyo and Ricky Laudico, owns a restaurant called SumoSam. The restaurant specializes in modern Japanese-American cuisine. He also co-owns a Japanese restaurant called John and Yoko and Cafe Ten Tita restaurant. Other than that, Marquez also owns the company Futuretainment, which specializes in the production of shows and events. Recently, the company debuted in the production of television content through Kanta Pilipinas, TV5’s singing contest. Furthermore, Marvin also acted in a few movies like Adik Sa’Yo, Tinik Sa Dibdib, Panday Kids, and Pilyang Kerubin.
In 2010, he was cast in the GMA Network series, Beauty Queen. Later, Agustin appeared in the drama series Iglot on GMA and later left the network to join TV5 in 2012. Two years later, he returned to ABS-CBN along with Jolina Magdangal. To date, Marvin has opened over 40 restaurants in the Philippines.
