Gooding was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, United States. He attended Windward High School in California, where he played football for four years. He graduated in 2015 and enrolled at New York University Tisch School of the Arts to study dramatic writing and psychology. But he dropped out during his freshman year to pursue his acting career. Gooding began his career by booking roles while still in college. His first acting role was in a movie called Ballers.
Furthermore, he made his breakthrough after the success of his first major film role in Booksmart, a debut film directed by Olivia Wilde. He also appeared on television shows before appearing in films such as Victor and Love where he was cast as Andrew. Similarly, Mason also appeared in the Netflix Christmas comedy.
