Mason Plumlee is a well-known basketball player who started professionally with the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association, NBA after the team selected him in the 2013 NBA draft.

The American, who has been All-State Pick twice, currently plays as a power forward and center for the Denver Nuggets. But as a freshman at Duke University (2009-2010), Mason Plumlee played as a backup striker alongside his older brother Miles for the Duke Blue Devils National Men’s Basketball Team. Plumlee is credited as a member of the United States national team that participated in the 2014 FIBA World Basketball Championship.

Mason Alexander Plumlee was born on March 5, 1990, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and grew up with parents who were basketball players. His father Perky is a lawyer who was a former Tennessee Tech basketball player, and his mother Leslie is a pharmacist who was a former Purdue basketball player. All three siblings of Plumlee are also full-time athletes. All three brothers played for Duke University; his brother Miles Plumlee currently plays for the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA; Marshall Plumlee is also a professional basketball player in the NBA, and his sister Madeleine Plumlee is a volleyball player at the University of Notre Dame.

Raised in Indiana, Plumlee attended Warsaw Community High School and later moved to Christ School in Arden, North Carolina after his first year of study. During his time at the latter school, he actively participated in basketball and helped lead the team to a record three North Carolina High School Athletic Association State Championships.

Mason Plumlee NBA Career

Plumlee pledged to play for Duke right after high school, side by side with his brother Miles. During his studies, he gained an excellent reputation in this game, which placed him high in the NBA Draft Ranking.

His awards as an athlete from high school to college include a silver medal with the U.S. national U18 team at the 2008 FIBA Americas U-18 Championship; 2009 McDonald’s All-American as a senior; a Jordan Brand All-American; and a third-team Parade All-American and Slam All-American. In addition to being named Mr. Basketball 2009 in North Carolina by the Charlotte Observer, Plumlee also competed in the high jump with an individual best jump of 6 feet 8 inches.

Plumlee signed his contract with the Brooklyn Nets on July 15, after the franchise voted him 22nd overall in the 2013 NBA draft. He played his first game and had his first win with the Nets on November 15, 2013, against the Phoenix Suns, where he scored 3 rebounds, 7 points, and 2 assists in 100 to 98 overtime.

He stayed in Brooklyn for three seasons (2013 – 2015) and lost a total of 152 games with 1237 points and 820 rebounds. Plumlee received the first NBA All-Rookie Team Award in the second season, becoming the first net since 2009 to receive this award.

The Indiana-born player was sold to the Portland Trail Blazers on June 25, 2015. After three months on the team, the Blazers extended his rookie contract until 2016-2017, recording several career highlights and setbacks, and in 2010 he became the first player to play a playoff game against basketball legend LeBron James with eight or more assists and 19 or more setbacks.

In seasons with the Portland National Team, Mason Plumlee has played 136 games, scoring 1,060 rebounds, 1,346 points, and nine wins. While the Portlands lost to the Milwaukee Bucks on December 7, 2016, Plumlee earned a reputation as the Portlands’ fastest player, scoring 150 rebounds and 100 assists in 23 games since 1999-2000. He broke further records, including being the first striker or center of the Blazers to score a double-double in rebounds and assists since 1984.

Plumlee was transferred to the Denver Nuggets on February 13, 2017, along with a draft pick in the second round of 2018 and money considerations. The team took him back under contract after 7 months, exactly on September 20th, and so far he has played 74 games with 524 points and 400 rebounds.
