Maureen Maher is a famous American television personality, taking on the roles of ATA CBS News reporter and news correspondent. She currently plays both roles on the American documentary/news magazine television show 48 Hours Mystery.
Maureen was given up for adoption by her biological parents when she was very young. Her parents, then high school sweethearts, had an early pregnancy, rendering them unable to raise her. She joined Loyola University after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1991.
Maureen began her television career with Chicago-based WLUW radio as a morning news anchor in the year 1991. She then moved to Detroit in 1992 working as a reporter for WJBK-TV, a Detroit-based TV station, and WWJ up until 1995.
From 1995-1997, Maher worked for WJRT-TV in Michigan as a news anchor covering breaking news, including the Oklahoma City bombing and the Decker farm attack. Later, in the period 1997-2002, she was a correspondent for CBS News in Chicago covering notable topics including the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
She then moved to Dallas working as a correspondent for CBS News from 1999 to 2002. She reported for the CBS Evening News about the War on Terror, the fall of the Taliban in Afghanistan and the 2002 Kenya hotel bombing, between many others.
Maher further reported on the murder of Scott Peterson and a 2003 Chicago Porch collapse that led to 13 deaths. In 2003, she was designated as the official host of 48 Hours Mystery, a CBS true crime documentary and broadcast news program.
